Slow dynamics of disordered zigzag chain molecules in layered LiVS2 under electron irradiation

چکیده

Electronic instabilities in transition metal compounds often spontaneously form orbital molecules, which consist of orbital-coupled ions at low temperature. Recent local structural studies utilizing the pair distribution function revealed that preformed molecules appear disordered even high-temperature paramagnetic phase. However, it is unclear whether are dynamic or static. Here, we provide clear experimental evidence slow dynamics realized phase LiVS2, exhibits vanadium trimerization upon cooling below 314 K. Unexpectedly, as a zigzag chain fluctuate both time and space under electron irradiation. Our findings should advance on soft matter physics an inorganic material due to molecules.

Electron dynamics in intentionally disordered semiconductor superlattices.

We study the dynamical behavior of disordered quantum well-based semiconductor superlattices where the disorder is intentional and short-range correlated. We show that, whereas the transmission time of a particle grows exponentially with the number of wells in an usual disordered superlattice for any value of the incident particle energy, for specific values of the incident energy this time inc...

Polyatomic molecules under intense femtosecond laser irradiation.

Interaction of intense laser pulses with atoms and molecules is at the forefront of atomic, molecular, and optical physics. It is the gateway to powerful new tools that include above threshold ionization, high harmonic generation, electron diffraction, molecular tomography, and attosecond pulse generation. Intense laser pulses are ideal for probing and manipulating chemical bonding. Though the ...

Electron imaging of dielectrics under simultaneous electron–ion irradiation

We demonstrate that if charging caused by electron irradiation of an insulator is controlled by a defocused flux of soft-landing positive ions, secondary electron ~SE! images can contain contrast due to lateral variations in ~i! changes in the SE yield caused by subsurface trapped charge and ~ii! the SE-ion recombination rate. Both contrast mechanisms can provide information on microscopic vari...

Laser-driven nonadiabatic electron dynamics in molecules

In this review, we briefly summarize more than a decade of experimental and theoretical investigations regarding the nonadiabatic electron response to intense femtosecond duration laser fields in a variety of molecular systems. Historically, experimental signatures of nonadiabaticity have emerged readily in large, conjugated, or multi-electron systems, disrupting fragmentation behavior and modu...

Atomic-scale dynamics of triangular hole growth in monolayer hexagonal boron nitride under electron irradiation.

The production of holes by electron beam irradiation in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), which has a lattice similar to that of graphene, is monitored over time using atomic resolution transmission electron microscopy. The holes appear to be initiated by the formation of a vacancy of boron and grow in a manner that retains an overall triangular shape. The hole growth process involves the formatio...
